Proverbs 3:5-6 says this: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways respond Him, and He shall direct your paths." If you notice, this verse doesn't say, "Trust in the Lord with half of your heart" or "three-quarters". It says "all". That's completely - no holding back. That's hard! But God would never ask us to do something that He wouldn't give us the quality to do. Proverbs 3:5-6 is one of the most well-loved Scriptures of many Christians. Here is a fun Bible school action to help your kids learn this verse along with some other Bible verses about trusting in the Lord.

Here's what you do:

This action will be played best with 8 or more children. The only thing you need for this game is a bag or bucket with index cards of numbers 2 to half of the whole of kids in your class. For example, if you have a total of 8 children, then your bag will consist of numbers 2, 3 and 4.

How to play:

You will need to divide your class into 2 teams. Have one child from the first team come forward and ask him one of the questions based on trusting in God found below. If the child answers correctly then he will get to reach in the bag and pull out a number. This whole is the whole of citizen from this child's team who must stand up and say the verse correctly, one at a time. You, the teacher, will select the kids who say the verse by alphabetical order of their last names. This way every child will get a chance o say the verse at some point or other. In order for a team to earn any points, all of the kids who were chosen to say the verse must say the Scripture correctly. For every child who said the verse correctly, that team will earn 100 points. So, if 2 children said the Scripture, that team will earn 200 points. If any child does not say the verse, the team earns zero points.

Before playing, introduce the episode in the following way:

Who would like to read Proverbs 3:5-6? (Have a child read the verse.) Trusting in the Lord is often one of the hardest things for a Christian to do. I think the imagine for this is found in our verse today in the part where it says "and lean not on your own understanding." Instead of trusting in God, we think we can do it all. We think we know it all and we might wonder if God authentically is as excellent as He says He is. This is crazy thinking! God is God! He is almighty, all-powerful and all-knowing! There is nothing that He can't do for you that is according to His will for your life. He loves you! That alone is imagine adequate to trust Him. Here's another question. How much of our heart are we supposed to trust God with? (Wait for response of "all".) That's right! We're supposed to trust God with all of our heart. Not just half or a diminutive bit. So, let's play a game today to help us learn Proverbs 3:5-6 and a diminutive bit more about what it means to trust in God. Before we play, let's say Proverbs 3:5-6 some times together to help you memorize it as fast as possible.
